VIDEO INSTALLATION: "One frame a day" (2009)

HD 1920x1080, Projection, 24 hours as infinite loop
High Definition video projector (native resolution 1920x1080), Dell Workstation, HDMI-cable
Edition: 5 pieces Video preview runs in fast motion! 2x24h compressed to 30 seconds

Artificial photorealistic landscape generated in real-time in a predefined render duration-span of exactly 24 hours. This process is shown as it unfolds on the projection but is not necessarily the main focus of attention.

The visitor sees a prominently placed personal desktop computer in the room, which is in the process of digitally generating the screened video-projection of a rural landscape. This process takes 24 hours and will be infinitely repeated in an endless loop. The passing-by visitor will encounter apparent stagnation of the render process since the frame rate is of only "1 frame-a-day". The picture is built up pixel by pixel.

The installation "One Frame A Day" is inspired by the tradition of landscape painting. However the picture is "painted" live at the exhibition space. Artificial worlds rendered in real time meet the current zeitgeist: computer games such as "World of Warcraft" and "The Sims" and artificial realities like Facebook count billions of users. Contemporary culture can no longer live without this digital spatial environment.
